Greetings, PoliOptics fans! As our show this week hits the air, your intrepid host is taking a few days off with the family.
Many thanks to NBC News Chief White House Correspondent Chuck Todd for taking a half hour out of his packed schedule with President Obama in the Middle East to call into us from Jerusalem with a vivid report of the goings-on.
Also thanks to my old pal Jeremy Gaines, with whom I shared tens of thousands of miles on Air Force One on trips very much like President Obama’s in Israel, the West Bank and Jordan this week, to offer perspective on what it’s like to plan such a juggernaut.
If you’ve got a good chunk of extra time this weekend, read Jeffrey Goldberg’s astonishingly vivid and amazingly well-timed article on King Abdullah II of Jordan, which appeared just days before the President arrived on Jordanian soil. As Chuck Todd implied in his conversation with us, the article gave the King plenty of walking-back to do.
